"The Voice" Returns....to the internet!

http://www.blogtalkradio.com/joeallenshow
3/30/2017

This Thursday night at 11:00pm eastern time, my good friend Barry Bull will join me once again on internet radio! Barry and I shared our high school years together. I met him as a sophomore at Lakeside High School in Evans, Georgia in 1989. He was an NWA guy. I was a WWF guy. His favorite was the "Nature Boy" Ric Flair. My favorite was the "Hulkster", Hulk Hogan. We went back and forth hundreds of times on which was greater, but at the end of the day, Barry and I built a bond of friendship which continues today...some 27+ years later!

We invite you to join us LIVE this Thursday, or listen to the archive on Friday! I'll be sharing a link to each show every week on my social media platforms, so don't feel like you have to listen LIVE. People, even wrestling fans, gotta work. I get it. lol. The goal obviously is to have a great time, and get as many listeners as we can, but not necessarily LIVE listeners. When Barry and I were in the planning stages for the show, we agreed that 11pm was late for those on the East Coast of the United States, however, with both of us responsible for families, 11pm on a Thursday night seemed to be the best time where both of us could set aside 30 minutes and do something we both sincerely love to do...entertain and inform.

This Thursday, on Blog Talk Radio. Barry will join me regularly for a weekly broadcast for the first time in over two years. It will certainly be something special. Please join us! We'll be discussing of course, the upcoming WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony this Friday, and I'll be providing my exclusive WrestleMania predictions. We'll also talk about my return to the ring this past Saturday night in Nashville, North Carolina as the newly signed Ring Announcer for EDGE Wrestling, as well as the potential for an EDGE event for the ages coming up April 29th!

All this an more...this Thursday night at 11pm eastern time, LIVE on Blog Talk Radio. It's the return of The JOE ALLEN Show!! Don't miss it!

For The Allen ReAction, I'm Joe Allen.

Exclusive Results of EDGE Wrestling's POPS Memorial Rumble!

It was a long time coming...and now it's over. This past Saturday night at the National Guard Armory in Nashville, North Carolina, EDGE Wrestling and CEO Link Alexander made history. Good history that is. The late Chad Williams, who gave EDGE Wrestling its name and known by fans as "POPS", would have been extremely proud of the happenings of this weekend's events. The fans showed up and packed the armory in Nashville...a venue in which Williams frequented often, along side of his son Kyndel. "He loved wrestling", Kyndel proclaimed proudly this Saturday. "He loved to watch me wrestle."

The front office and executive leadership at EDGE Wrestling were determined to make this event special, and they certainly didn't disappoint. Eight matches were on the line-up, including the POPS Memorial Rumble, a match in which the winner would receive a crack at the EDGE Heavyweight Championship in the Main Event!

Dwayne Allen ready for a fight!
Prior to getting the event started, EDGE CEO Link Alexander welcomed  yours truly as EDGE's new official Ring Announcer. I'm very honored to be a Ring Announcer. It's what I love to do, and I'm very thankful to Link for the opportunity to sign with EDGE. It's going to be a great ride.

Next up, we got things kicked off with a bang, as Pops' nephew Brandon Williams played the national anthem with his electric guitar. I've never heard anything like it. The absolutely perfect way to get everything started and he nailed it! From there, the action began. Here are the official match results from the POPS Memorial Rumble show...

Exclusive Results:
  • Jordan Flyght defeated Robyn Golphin to become the official #1 contender of the "Over the Edge" Championship.
  • Rex Sterling turned back the challenge of Orlando Christopher.
  • The Reigning "Over the Edge" Champion, the "Bad Seed" Erik Ellis defeated J-Swagg. Ellis will now have to face Jordan Flyght somewhere down the line, in what could be a match of the year candidate.
  • The Hounds of Hades (Jackson and Austin Shadowz) captured the vacant EDGE Tag Team Titles, defeating The Royal Round Table, consisting of Raymond King and P.L. Prince.
  • Intermission
  • Kyndel Williams got some much needed help in the form of Sean Cruise, as the duo defeated Dwayne Allen and Firelord Draconis. After the match, Allen refused to shake Kyndel's hand, but fans could tell there was a lot of respect between the two.
  • "The Beau Show" Beau Crockett, accompanied to the ring by "Money" Mike Fortune, defeated former EDGE Heavyweight Champion Brandon Day, however, it took outside interference from Fortune's henchman Vinnie DaMoochie, to get the job done.
  • The POPS Memorial Rumble was next. A total of 25 EDGE Superstars entered the Rumble, including #1 entrant Kyndel Williams. As the emotion behind the Rumble itself, Williams fought as valiantly as anyone, to the point where he was among the final two remaining. But in the end, entrant #30: "The Unpredictable One" Damien Wayne was just too much for Kyndel to overcome. As a result, Wayne received an opportunity to compete in the evening's main event for the EDGE Heavyweight Championship.
  • In the Main Event, the EDGE Heavyweight Champion Scotty Mathews seemed to have a decided "edge" against the challenger. Damien had just competed for several minutes already in the Rumble. Mathews was fresh. But Wayne did an unthinkable act in order to even the playing field, by joining forces with "Money" Mike Fortune and turning his back on the fans. By the end of this one, it was basically 5 on 1, as Fortune's entire clan had made their way to ringside. The odds were stacked against Scotty, and Damien Wayne left Nashville as the new EDGE Heavyweight Champion.
What an evening it was! It had all the ingredients to make history. An opportunity to honor someone loved by the masses...a great locker room of competitors, both veteran and young stars...and an insanely exciting crowd of wrestling fans. That's what made this night special. It wasn't one person that made it happen. It was the collective efforts of everyone. From the DJ, to the wrestlers, to the fans...it was an incredible night of wrestling.

"The Unpredictable One" Damien Wayne wins EDGE Heavyweight Title!

Fans...don't miss EDGE's next event...coming to you LIVE from the armory in Nashville. Same place, different date. April 29th. Mark it on your calendar. What will "The Unpredictable One" Damien Wayne do next? What will happen with the new alliance of Kyndel Williams and Sean Cruise, now being billed as "Cruise Kyntrol"? Can Erik Ellis hang on to the "Over the Edge" Championship with Jordan Flyght breathing down his neck? Can the Hounds of Hades prove that beating the Royal Round Table was just the first step in a long reign of destruction in EDGE?

You're only going to find out the answers to these and many other questions if you join us on April 29th in Nashville. For the Allen ReAction, I'm Joe Allen, and this has been an exclusive report on the results of EDGE Wrestling's POPS Memorial Rumble. We'll see you on April 29th!

Losing Some Great Ones

Before getting to the main content of this edition of "The Allen ReAction", can I say how happy I am that Enzo Amore and Big Cass are getting a shot at the Tag Team Titles at WWE Fast Lane. I'm hoping that something happens that results in them getting another shot at WrestleMania, and winning the title. Those two are just flat out funny, and I'm entertained every time I watch them.

Okay. I have to talk about several recent headlines in which some professional wrestlers have passed away. 2017 has been a tough one already in the wrestling world. It's not even the end of February yet, and seveal well-known superstars are in eternity.

It all started with the passing of Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka, who died January 14th of stomach cancer at age 73. Snuka was widely-known for his rivalries with "The Magnificent" Muraco and "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. "The Superfly" leap from the top of the cage in Madison Square Garden onto Muraco, and the Piper's Pit segment in which "Hot Rod" shattered a coconut over Snuka's head, are moments that are firmly etched into wrestling history.

Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka
Then came a very challenging week. In the span of just seven days, four wrestlers or former wrestlers passed away, including one very popular independent star local here in North Carolina. Chavo Guerrero, Sr. died February 11th of liver cancer at 68 years of age. Next came "The Animal" George Steele. "The Animal", most notably known for his rivalry with the "Macho Man" Randy Savage and his infatuation with Elizabeth, died February 16th from kidney failure. He was 79. The following day, former women's wrestler Nicole Bass died of a sudden stroke at the age of 52.

George "The Animal" Steele

"The Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff
And then the very next day, the wrestling world awoke to the news that "The Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff had died. Ivan Koloff was one of the greatest "bad guys" to ever get in the ring. I personally remember my disdain for him as a kid as I watched him hold my favorite at the time, Tommy "Wildfire" Rich, while Ole Anderson cut Rich's hair. Ivan's character was easy to hate and he made wrestling the good guys very exciting. He was the ultimate antagonist, and with the Russian gimmick, he had everything you could ask for in a genuine heel. He was 74.

Aside from the well known superstars, there was also a very heart-wrenching loss here in Eastern North Carolina. On February 8th, independent sensation Corey Collier passed away. He was 29. I never met Corey or announced his name. However, after his passing, I met many who were very impacted by this young man's passing. Corey will certainly be missed around these parts. From everything I've heard, he was a tremendous talent and a great human being.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of each of these mentioned here. Let's hope that March isn't like February. Wow! What a tough month of loss.

* * * * * * *

Let's change our focus to one of the hottest re-launches of any independent wrestling promotions in recent memory...EDGE Pro Wrestling, based out of Nashville, North Carolina!
Not only is EDGE Wrestling experiencing some of the hottest crowds on the independent circuit right now in their LIVE events, but on February 13th, they opened the EDGE Pro Wrestling Training Academy in Elm City, NC!

This adds an incredible dynamic to wrestling promotion already on fire in Nashville. Now, young guys in the area who are wanting to learn how to wrestle, can do exactly that.

Now, let's hit the results of the last EDGE event, held at the National Guard Armory in Nashville...

EDGE Wrestling - February 18, 2017
National Guard Armory
Nashville, NC
  • Match 1...In tag team action, The Geordie Bulldogs def. The Royal Round Table (Raymond King & Pocket Lint Prince
  • Match 2...J-Swagg returned and defeated Blake Tucker
  • Match 3...Sean Cruise def. Shane Martin
  • Match 4...Tremmor def. Kyndel Williams with an illegal assist by Dwayne Allen
  • Match 5..."Over the Edge" Championship Fatal 4-Way Match...
"The Badseed" Erik Ellis captured the vacant "Over the Edge" Championship in a Fatal 4-Way victory over Jordan Flyght, Robyn Golphin, and Rex Sterling
  • Match 6..."Lucious" Lance def. Dwayne Allen, via DisQualification after attacking Lance with a chair. Coming to Lance's aid was none other than Kyndel  Williams.
  • Main Event: Edge Champion, Scotty Mathews def. Vinnie Damoochie, via DisQualification due to outside interference by The Royal Round Table. The Geordie Bulldogs rushed the ring to ward off the attack.
  • Bonus Match: Six-Man Tag Team Action... Scotty Mathews and The Geordie Bulldogs def. Vinnie Damoochie and The Royal Round Table.
The events of February 18th led to one match already being signed for the event on 3/25! Dwayne Allen will tag team with Temmor, as they will take on Kyndel "the Kid" Williams and Lucious Lance. It has also been announced that the POPS Memorial Rumble will take place, with the winner receiving a crack at the EDGE Heavyweight Championship!! Whoa Baby!!! Who knows what else will develop in the next several weeks as we get closer to March 25th.

"The Voice" Is Back!

Hello Fans!! I'm Joe Allen, and I'm pleased to announce that this past Saturday night in Lumberton, North Carolina, I made a return to the ring after a near two year absence. Oh, and did it feel good to be back on that microphone. That PA system...the arena...the ring...the fans...the locker room full of unbelievably talented athletes....It's my happy place.

In May of 2015, many of you know that a family accident drastically changed the course and direction of our family. I'm highly pleased to be able to report to you that as of February 2017, all appears to be well...praise God.

This past Saturday night in Lumberton, on the same night I'd make my return, I had the incredible pleasure of meeting for the very first time...NWA legends: Nikita Koloff & Magnum T.A.!! And not only that, but I got to introduce them to the crowd at the Priscilla King Arena! I never had the opportunity to announce them when they were both wrestling, so I prepared a verbal tribute of sorts, that would basically acknowledge their in-ring accomplishments, and then end with a big pop announcement, including their ring hometown and weight. It was awesome! What a moment for this grown kid from Augusta, Georgia. It was truly a dream come true. I got goose bumps as I gave it my best effort to give them their just announcement.... "It gives me great honor and pleasure to introduce to you...from Moscow...weighing in at 121 kilos..."The Russian Nightmare" NIKITA--- KO---LOFF!!!!" Oh, what a moment.

Speaking to both Magnum and Nikita was a tremendous honor. In just a 6-year career, Magnum had made so much history. He was literally on the verge of winning the NWA World Title when his accident happened in October 1986. To be able to tell him "thank you" for his contributions to wrestling, was a very cool moment. And then...on the same day as we all found out about the passing of wrestling's perennial "bad guy", Ivan Koloff, having the opportunity to talk to and shake the hand of Nikita...a guy who traveled closely with Ivan for years, it was truly an honor. Nikita is just a great person, and not ashamed of his faith, which I personally think is fantastic for a man with his fame and notoriety.

As if that wasn't enough, six big matches from some of the best independent talent in North and South Carolina were on the agenda for the evening, including not one, but TWO Heavyweight Championship Matches! The event was billed as "ONE NIGHT ONLY". Not only were Nikita and Magnum inside the Priscilla King Arena for one night only, but the Lumberton-based Ring Wars Carolina (RWC) promotion was joining forces with All-Pro Classic Wrestling out of Laurinburg for this very special evening of wrestling and legends.

A Double Main Event!  The "Warhawk" Dylan Kage was set to defend the APCW Heavyeight Championship belt against the #1 challenger and rival, "The Alpha Gladiator" Pierce. This is certainly not the first time these two have met. And then...representing RCW, the Ring Wars Carolina Heavyweight Champion, "Mr. Everything" Victor Andrews would be defending his title against the #1 challenger to his belt..."Hangtyme". I mean, it's not very often fans get to witness two heavyweight championship matches on the same night, in the same building! But Saturday night in Lumberton, it happened.

Here's a recap of the action, as RCW and APCW present..."ONE NIGHT ONLY"!
  • In the opening bout, "Side Effect" (RCW) defeated Homestead, NC's own, Curtis Cash (RCW).
  • "Bad" Brad Hunter (APCW) pinned "The Rat Slaya" Malachi Matthews (APCW) in a highly competitive match-up.
  • Yours truly, Joe Allen introduced our very special guests and NWA legends, "The Boss" Magnum T.A. and "The Russian Nightmare" Nikita Koloff to the crowd in Lumberton.
  • The "Atlantic Coast Destruction Crew" comprised of Ethan Storm & Tazz Jackson, accompanied by "Big Business" James McHone (APCW) battled "The GymNasty Boys"Timmy Lou Retton & White Mike (APCW), to a Double DisQualification. We haven't seen the last of this rivalry.
  • After the intermission, it was time for the "Fatal 4-Way Free 4 All" match (APCW)! In the end, "Off-Kilter" Rob Killjoy, accompanied by "Coach Mikey" had the Lumberton fans "quacking" along, as he defeated X-JamesKid Nemesis, and Chance Lebeaux.
  • In a big-time confrontation between two seasoned rivals, "The Alpha Gladiator" Pierce, with an assist from "Big Business" James McHone, captured the APCW Heavyeight Title from "The Warhawk" Dylan Kage.
  • In the second of two Main Events, RCW Heavyweight Champion "Mr. Everything" Victor Andrews successfully defended his title against "Hangtyme".
What an evening! It was truly great to be back! And to top it all off, I got to co-ring announce with a new friend of mine, fellow Ring Announcer representing Ring Wars Carolina, "Prime Time" Perry Thompson, who is truly talented on the mic in his own right!
